Visit the Remote Islands of Japan! Or Fill Out a Volunteer Form! Or Both!
There are 9 million akiya’s or “abandoned homes” throughout Japan. Most of which are in rural areas with the most rural parts being the remote Japanese islands. There are over 14k islands that are apart of Japan with over 400 of them being inhabited. One of the smallest populations on these islands in Takaikamishima island, with 11 residents. However despite it’s small size it has huge dreams and aspirations with the locals creating the “Manga Island” with various murals done by big time manga artists along with its own manga school that takes place in an old elementary school.
The aim of this site is to simply spread awareness as well potential tourism and volunteer prospects to give these islands and volunteer organizations a hand. So if you or anyone you know has ever been interested in opportunities to volunteer in Japan this is THE site for you!
